This project consisted of two flat roofs areas separated by a parapet wall. The roof was heavily contaminated by fungal growth and the joints and seams in the mineral felt had failed allowing water ingress into the buildings of the Water Authorities Waste Water Treatment Works.
With various items of plant and machinery positioned on the roof areas it was decided a liquid roof membrane system would be an ideal flexible choice to refurbish the roof.
Roofing contractor, Reprotec UK Limited, along with a Thortex Roofing consultant, recommended the Thortex 15 Year Premier Waterproofing System which uses the Thortex Poly-Tech EC/UV moisture triggered polyurethane membrane.
The Solution
The heavy deposits of dirt, moss and silt were swept from the surface and the whole roof area treated with Thortex Surface Conditioner to further remove any algae or fungal growth.
All joints and seams were bridged with Thortex Bridging Tape and reinforced with 10” wide 100gm Premier Chopped Strand Mat embedded into a stripe coat of Thortex Poly-Tech EC.
The complete roof areas, including the roof vents and roof lights were then coated with Poly-Tech EC into which 100gm Premier Chopped Strand Mat was completely encapsulated, fully reinforcing the system across the whole roof.
Poly-Tech EC is hard dry for overcoating after 16 hours so the next day a top coat of Poly-Tech UV was applied to the complete roof area, completing the project.
The client has now commissioned further works.
